Beverly Hills history
The modern history of Beverly Hills begins in 1900 when the Amalgamated Oil Company purchased land in the area to look for oil. The community was named after Beverly Farms in Beverly Massachusetts. The first home was built in 1907. The Beverly Hills Hotel was completed in 1912, which drew more people to the area. The city was incorporated in 1914, and in 1921, movie stars Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford built a mansion and moved in. This lead to the city’s growing appeal as an exclusive community.
