Glasscapes by Viscosity

If you haven?t had the opportunity to check out the Glasscapes by Viscosity exhibit at Sherman Library & Gardens, you have until October 29th to see it before it goes away for good. Made possible by the husband and wife artist team of Scott Graham and Cristy Aloysi, the exhibit includes five beautiful contemporary blown glass sculptures.

Graham and Aloysi of Viscosity Glass Studio began their glassblowing careers at Urban Glass in Brooklyn. They were captivated by the ancient process of glassmaking, which involved forming handmade objects from molten material. They soon became involved in the city?s art and design world, which ultimately had an influence on their work.

The couple continued their study at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington before learning more at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine and then at Centro Studio Vetro in Venice, Italy. They then continued their study at Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle, Washington, at which time they moved to Seattle and began creating a line of contemporary glass objects for the home. Their goal was to create pieces that were unique with clean lines and simple designs.

Today, the couple lives in Boulder Creek, California where they are surrounded by the serene beauty of the redwoods. They continue to design and make original blown glass pieces, with their Corona del Mar exhibit gaining inspiration from the amazing plants and grounds of Sherman Library & Gardens. In fact, three of the pieces are originals that were designed specifically for the Sherman Library exhibit. The other two pieces were previously displayed at Fioli Gardens in Redwood City, California in the summer of 2016.

The exhibit is open daily from 10:30 am until 4:00 pm. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 through 18. Those under 12 are admitted for free, as are members of the Gardens. The onsite restaurant, Café Jardin, is also open Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. The Sherman Library & Gardens is located at 2647 East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar.
